Maro Michaelidou, DEA


Maro Michaelidou holds a Doctorate Diploma: DEA, (Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies), in Linguistics and Applications in teaching, from the Sorbonne University in Paris III. During her thesis she conducted research on “The Discourses constructed on Alterity and Ethnic Identity.” She got her Master’s (Maitrise) in Linguistics and Methodology and her graduate degree in French Literature from the same University.

She held the positions of Inspector for teaching foreign languages at the Ministry of Education of Cyprus and Principal of Secondary Education Schools. She has been a Member of the DoRiF Universita of Rome, a Linguistics Research Centre and she has lectured in the field of Discourse Analysis at the University of Teramo in Italy, as a Coltore di Lingua Francese. She participated in the Coordination group of the Council of Europe concerning the learning of foreign languages and contributed in the preparation of teaching/training programs and curricula of the University of Europe, under the direction of the Recteur de l’Academie de Paris, Mrs Ahrweiler. She organized various seminars, congresses and training courses for teachers and since many years she is an expert-consultant of UNESCO in the field of Learning Foreign Languages.

Her work has been published in international reviews as the “Franηais dans le Monde”and other editions. She authored: “Needs and Discourse Analysis: French language and Diplomacy”, “Creativity in teaching”, “Motivation in learning”, “Ethnicity and Intercultural relations”. .She has been decorated with the Insignia of the Officer of the Order of the Palmes Academiques by the French government. She is a founder Member and Secretary of the Board of the Cyprus Gender Research Centre.
